Getting There
1
Park up at the National Trust Car Park – If you are a National Trust member you don’t have to pay for parking, otherwise, it’s a couple pounds depending on how long you wish to stay!
2
Exit the Car Park- To exit the car park, cross the street and walk through the wooden gate on the right. Be cautious as the road can be busy to cross.
3
Wooden Gate- Once you enter through the wooden gate, simply follow the path straight. To the left should be the base of the castle and on your right an open field with a large hill (this is the hill you will eventually go up!)
4
Walk Until You Hit Another Gate- Eventually, you will hit another set of two gates. Once you get there continue through the gate straight ahead. There will be one to your right as well. We actually accidentally went through this one, although you will get there it’s a long way, so be sure to go through the one straight ahead.
5
Walk-Up The Stairs- You will know you made it through the right gate if you come across some steep stairs walk up these stairs all the way to the top
6
Find the Gate In Our Photo- Once at the top you will find the gate pictured in the images below, this was the first and if you continue up the hill you will find another one!
7
Enjoy the View- Be sure to take in the incredible view from the top!

This hill has 360-degree views of the village below and the castle. It is such a magical place to sit and take in. If you stay long enough you will also see the steam train go by! It is easy to go back in time and imagine what went on in this very spot over 1000 years ago. Many different wars and centuries endured in this very spot!
