The Ultimate Surf island Siargao – Siargao is a surfer’s paradise and any adventurer’s dream. Small enough to ride around via motorbike in one day, yet large enough to spend a week and barely scratch the surface. In this blog we are uncovering what we loved most about Siargao. We created a small itinerary of the top things we think you should do, along with places to eat and stay during your time on the island.
Now if you haven’t been to either Hawaii, or Mexico- don’t worry this place is still epic and you should go regardless!
If Hawaii and Mexico had a baby you would get Siargao.
Overall, we have nothing but great things to say about this little surfer island. We spent a total of 8 days in Siargao, and had we known how much we were going to love it, we would have happily spent more.
So what is so great about it you ask? First off, the people and the atmosphere the island radiates is magical. It’s the little things like riding your bike and waving to all the adorable kids on the side of the road, or watching the locals hangout near Cloud 9 that make this island seem so welcoming. Secondly, the stunning natural beauty of the island. You get everything from mystical palm tree forests, to white sand beaches with some killer surf. And third, the food! We ate at some of the most reasonably priced, yet delicious spots in all the Philippines.

Things To DO
Cloud 9
If you go to Cloud 9 beach you will barely be able to see the surf, unless you walk out onto the pier. But the beach itself is covered with locals and is home to many great surf shacks, shops and yummy vegan restaurants.
Magpopongko Rock pools
One of the popular instagram spots on the island. Be sure you visit at low tide, as if you show up too late the rock pools will be submerged under water. We went around 10am and although there were many people we got lucky because there were some jellyfish that scared all the tourists out of the water. (We still got that epic shot! And swam haha)
Secret Beach
One of the harder beaches to find. It took us three tries, but we finally found it. It requires a little walk through some beautiful palm trees before you get to it, but its worth it! It is also a popular surf spot, so we sat in the afternoon and watched some of the surfers. George also found a fresh coconut to crack open!
Enchanted River Rope Swing
Located in the middle of Siargao, there is a rope swing that hangs over a lazy river. If you haven’t done any research on Siargao then you would easily drive past the obvious red bridge which indicated is location along the road. Here you can enjoy they day climbing up a coconut tree and swing into the water like George of the Jungle! Additionally, this is the instagram spot in Siargao, so if you want to beat the crowds head there early, it’s definitely worth the early morning wake up call.
Palm tree lookout
This famous instagram spot and viewpoint is on the road as you head into General Luna and just before the rope swing. It is not hard to miss, as you will see many people stopped alongside the road taking photos. This post is one of those views that literally will take your breath away!
Rent a Bike
100% rent a bike. It should cost between 400-450 pesos per day, but it is essential. There is nothing like having the freedom to see what you want when you want. Also this island is perfect for first time riders. The roads are completely paved, with little to no traffic. I (Hanna) had never driven a bike before because I was always too scared, but I tried here!

Where To Eat
Kermits Pizza
A super chill hangout spot on the island. They offer accommodation, as well as surf lessons. They also serve some killer food and drinks. It is a bit on the pricier side, but for a date night it was worth it! We recommend the Kermit Pizza and the spicy melon cocktails!
Ronaldos
This place was our go to! A quick walk from our Air BnB, this joint was popular amongst the locals. Super cheap, yet delicious food we ate our way in BBQ and vegetable soups.
Aventinos Pizza
Another decent pizza joint that had really reasonable prices and yummy selections. Quick turnaround on services as well, so you wont be waiting long for that pizza.
Mama’s Grill BBQ
Some killer BBQ at Mamas Grill, located on the way to cloud 9. You walk up to the fridge and select your meats/veggies and they will grill it for you right there. Very cheap and they have good cold beers as well!
Loose Keys
This was our go to going out bar. Super cool vibes, live music some nights and a pool table. We made some really good friends with the workers there and some of the locals. Definitely recommend you go and play a game of pool against the locals, they are so good!

Where To Stay
Luckywinn Compound on Air BnB. We cannot rave about this little homestay enough! Its a room with a queen bed, AC, hot water and get this… WiFI. WiFi is so hard to find on this island so the fact that we were able to find a place to stay with quality wifi was gold. It was also located in the most prime location. Just a few minutes walk to the beach, the bars and our go to food joint, Ronaldos. It was also really nice that we got to stay with a family. We got to chat with them and learn about their way of life and ask them questions about what to see and do on the island. So we like to think we got a more local experience as opposed to just staying in a hotel!
Overall Siargao takes the cake for our favourite place in the Philippines. The next time we visit the Philippines we plan on spending the majority of a month on this island, that’s how much we loved it !
