- DISCLAIMER: By no means are we claiming to know it all. After all…we are still very small fish in a big pond. Nevertheless, we get asked daily what tips we have, so we thought we could share what has worked for us!
How To Grow A successful Instagram
1
Consistency Is Key
It is so important to post frequently, by frequently we mean once a day. (Please don’t be that person who posts 4 Instagrams in one day). However, creating a schedule and posting at a consistent time once a day, will likely work in your favour. You will find that your followers will begin to expect a post from you each day and be more likely to lookout for it.
2
Network
Network, network, network! This means dedicate a little time each day to go and like fellow peoples photos and comment. It is especially important to do this with accounts similar to your own. Just remember you are apart of the community and this will help you stand out.
3
Use Instagram Insights
If you create a business account on the app, you can actually use the insights that Instagram provides to figure out what day of the week and what time your followers are on the app. This will allow you to choose a time of day where the majority of your followers are on, therefore they can see your post.
4
Hashtags & Tags
Hashtags and tags are a great way to get new followers. People searching for certain hashtags can come across your photo and ultimately your profile if you use quality hashtags. By quality hashtags, we mean trending hashtags, or hashtags related to your content. We hashtag every single photo without a doubt. Additionally, if you tag other accounts similar to yours, or within your niche, you have a chance to potentially be featured on their profile/page.
5
Invest In Yourself & Your Equipment
We won’t lie… sometimes it takes putting in some money to get the results. What we mean by this is invest in a quality camera. Invest in a top editing software. Invest in your time. This stuff takes time! We will be 100% upfront with you all, we still can’t afford all the equipment we wish we could have. We don’t have a drone, or an extremely nice camera yet. That being said, we prioritized what we needed and did invest in that. For example, we use Lightroom to edit all of our photos, we pay a monthly fee to have our website up and running, and we purchased a DJI Osmo Mobile 2 gimbal to take video and photos with our iPhones. Invest in yourself and we promise the content will show for it!
6
Be Original
Now this one is really hard and we won’t lie, even we struggle with it. With so many people on Instagram doing the same thing, sometimes it can get redundant. As hard as it may be, try to come up with content that people haven’t seen before. Try to post pictures about what you are passionate about- for us that is travel. You will find that if you are passionate about something it will come through in your photos.
7
Quality Captions
Use your captions as a way to engage your followers. Take your time to think of them and try to ask a questions in them. Asking questions will encourage your followers to respond in the comments and also allow you to create an organic dialogue with your followers.

WHAT NOT TO DO
Don’t join engagement groups and don’t buy your followers!!! Here’s the deal guys, we know there is a quick and easy way to gain followers, but its not organic and you will find your lack of engagement will show for it. We get DM’s everyday asking if we want to join engagement groups and we ignore them. Also, buying followers will get you nowhere! People within the community know when you buy your followers and you will lose respect among your peers. Not only do the people in your community notice, but brands also notice. If you ever want to get to the point where you are partnering with brands, just know that they aware to lookout for engagement rates.
At the end of the day, your Instagram account should be for you and not for someone else. We started ours as a passion project and use the platform to help encourage people to travel and see the world. I hope these few tips can help you become successful, but always remember it’s not about numbers. We have grown to love the community Instagram fosters and find inspiration in so many different accounts!
