A Complete Travel Guide – Weligama. Beach hopping is a popular thing to do in the South of Sri Lanka. If you plan to be down South, make sure you spend a few days in Weligama. Weligama is any surfer, or yogi’s dream. While it is not so much a beach for tanning and swimming, this strip of ocean is particularly perfect for riding the waves.
How to Get There
We suggest you get to Weligama by car. We took a Pick Me (local ride share) from Unawatuna and it was an easy 20 minute drive!

Where To Stay
Ceylon Sliders
We had an amazing stay with the guys at Ceylon Sliders. They made us feel right at home and hooked it up with some surf lessons. They are located right on the beach which was perfect for us and offered killer morning coffee views. If you want to read more about our stay click here: Ceylon Sliders A Surfers Paradise.
Spindrift Hostel
We have been internet friends with the guys at Spindrift Hostel for almost a year now! We were totally crushed to find out that they would be temporary closed whilst we were there, due to low season. They are a fabulous couple that run a really fun and affordable hostel right in the heart of Weligama! Be sure to check them out HERE.
In our opinion, you can easily see Weligama in 1-2 days. You don’t need too much time here as we think there are better beaches to see down South. However, if you are interested in trying your hand at surfing, or want a little yoga time, definitely be sure to spend a day, or two here in this cute beach town!
